Obsessions Of A Designer World

There are several obsessions present in modern western culture that strongly contribute to influencing social standing and peer groups. From technology crazes , musical fads, entertainment such as popular television and even down to fashion in magazines effecting the clothing we buy.

All these obsessions seem to have a base in the media we are bombarded with in so many different forms such as product placement, television advertisements, pop-up ads on the internet, radio plugging, magazines, news papers, billboard advertisement – this list just goes on and on. There are even virtual environments on gaming consoles with online communities giving the general masses access to shopping and new from there couch or bed or desk at home.

It’s quite scary just how much of an effect these avenues can have on different social groups, sometimes it seems as though the whole planet is caught in some kind of hypnotic trance, being told what to buy, how fast to buy it, what’s in fashion, what’s bad for your health, what’s good for your health, who’s reputable and who’s not. What ever happened to freedom of choice? I means were all intelligent adults for the most part aren’t we and capable of making independent decisions?

I think the problem is some of the influences are more subtle than we realise with certain colours and word play designed to effect us at the sub-conscious level. Take walking through a busy city centre for example, you are bombarded by a whole host of advertisements designed to draw you in for that ever so important sale.

Many of the more deliberate examples of this are from the fashion industry in my opinion as they often place the latest and most expensive clothing pieces together from designer such as henleys in a nice presented window display while not showing the price tag that would send you running and normally place these displays next to an enormous “big sale” or “50% off sale” sign to mislead you long enough to get you in the store so a group of well trained sales people dressed in the latest designer must have’s can make you feel bad about coming out in your oldest an comfiest pair of jeans. Basically you are deceived to get you in the store and then guilt tripped into making a purchase.

We’ve all done it I’m sure, broke half way through a month and just window shopping when you get shown the latest designer jeans, a funky new season’s t shirt or even henleys jackets you want and probably shouldn’t really put on your credit card but by now you’ve tried them on and feel like you almost owe it to the store employee who has been waiting like a hawk for you to come out so they can pile you with compliments about how good they look on you.

There may never be an end to this unless we all try to break from tradition and spend time to go a little further afield to find items from those smaller companies that still believe in high quality products at a reasonable price but who can afford to compete with the endless advertising budget of huge corporations and companies.

We can but try.

Four Human Pheromone Types

Pheromones act as a form of chemical communication between human beings. These chemicals are well known for their ability to attract members of the opposite sex.

There are four common types of human pheromones:

Androstenone, or A-None is found in both men and women, however, it is usually known of as a male pheromone because it creates a dominant and aggressive aura and projects an aggressive alpha impression. Also, this pheromone can cause people to act more polite to the wearer. Androstenone has quite a strong and sharp smell in high concentrations, so wearing a decent cover fragrance over androstenone applications is necessary.

Androstenol, or A-Nol, has two types: alpha and beta androstenol, each producing somewhat different results. Alpha androstenol makes the wearer seem more approachable and friendly, and less intimidating by creating an aura of youth and fitness. Alpha androstenol is not “macho” pheromone, like androstenone. Beta androstenol is good for inducing conversations, but it is less popular than alpha-androstenol, possibly because of its limited availability.

Androsterone, or A-Rone, creates an aura of protection and reliableness which is usually associated with peaceful alpha males. This pheromone makes the wearer appear to be more masculine. Also, androstenone can enhance or the effect of other pheromones in a pheromone mix.

Androstadienone, or A1 pheromone, probably the most popular pheromone within the pheromones community. This so-called “love pheromone” can increase caring feelings and closeness.

Pheromones can be combined and topically applied. Pheromone colognes and perfumes sold on the Internet can help people be more attractive to members of the opposite sex, while at the same time be more respected by members of the same sex.

The Art of Self Help: Hypnosis Cds

“I don’t think I can be hypnotized,” is a statement I often hear in my office as my client gently drifts off to sleep. As a Nationally Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, I have guided thousands of people over my twenty years of practice on a journey of self discovery and empowerment. My job, as a therapist, is to facilitate the individual to remove blocks and identify and reinforce goals while reminding them that everything they accomplish is their accomplishment and that, in fact, all hypnosis is self hypnosis. CDs that I’ve created and books that I’ve written–along with tons of research from other authorities–will testify to this.

Hypnosis is simply distraction of the conscious level of the mind. It is a form of relaxed concentration. The more relaxed you are, the more suggestible you become. Have you ever found yourself unconsciously whistling a tune you just heard on the radio? Or have you ever been around someone speaking negatively about something and soon found yourself thinking negative thoughts? It is said that enthusiasm is contagious….so is sadness, hope, despair and happiness.

Hypnosis is rooted in basic human biology. It is the natural counterpart to our “fight/flight” instinct, allowing us to be receptive rather than reactive to our environment and to receive input rather than remain in a constant state of output. Suggestibility allows us to “touch our environment.” Our mind is like a narrow one-lane bridge allowing traffic to travel in only one direction at a time. Suggestibility is the officer who halts the traffic of output and allows the flow of sounds, sights, smells, taste and touch to enter.

Hypnosis is the guardian at the gate of that bridge and allows only those thoughts, ideas, feelings and beliefs that are supportive to your conscious goals to enter. As a result, hypnosis and its counterpart, self hypnosis, become potent forces directing the subconscious mind towards the achievement of consciously chosen goals. If hypnosis is the traffic cop, self hypnosis, simply stated, is YOU, the officer directing traffic across the bridge connecting your inner and outer worlds.

In my practice, I have encountered numerous individuals with the desire to learn the practice of self help hypnosis. CDs, self help books, and other tools I’ve developed as a result include this five step program to tapping into inner potential through appropriate input. Simply stated, the five steps are: Preparation, Relaxation, Deepening, Suggestion and Termination. Preparation is creating a time, a place and perhaps even a ritual for relaxation.

Practicing self hypnosis at the same time each day is very beneficial, triggering the subconscious mind to reinforce suggestions, even if you’re not taking that time to relax for self hypnosis. Don’t worry, the same time does not mean 6 am every morning or 11 pm every night. That quickly leads to disappointment and a feeling of failure since life WILL get in the way and you won’t be able to make your “appointment with yourself.” Rather, choose a time in your routine, before you take your shower, during your lunch break, before you pick up the kids from school, or after the late show. Make self hypnosis part of your routine, not part of your schedule. Humans are not only suggestible, they are creatures of habit.
